Britons Split Wednesday Baseball Doubleheader

ALBION, Mich. – Andrew Fabry gave Albion College six solid innings of relief and shortstop Joe Turnbull slugged two more doubles as Albion College rallied for a 9-8 victory over Trine University in the first game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader at Champions Stadium at Frank Joranko Field.

Trine scored five times in the first and it added a run in the third to surge to a 6-0 lead.

A pair of Trine errors opened the door for Albion to score five times in the third. Jack Wyman, Jordyn Finney James Spilko and Riley Stesiak all collected RBI and Finney stole home.

Albion added four runs in the fifth. Stesiak and Turnbull hit RBI doubles, and Ronnie Williams and Shane Lindemann hit RBI singles.

Turnbull now has 14 doubles this season, good for third-most on Albion's single-season list. He is one double shy of matching Brad Brown's 1995 total of 15 doubles.

Fabry (2-2) was charged with three runs on seven hits and a walk. Steven Scott worked around a leadoff single to notch his fourth save of the season.

Albion had to settle for a split of the doubleheader when it lost game two, 4-1. Lindemann's sacrifice fly in the sixth drove in TJ Bowers with Albion's run. The Britons received fine relief pitching performances from Patrick O'Brien (a run on two hits and a walk over 3.2 innings) and Scott (1.1 perfect innings).

Albion (15-22 overall, 8-18 MIAA) is scheduled to complete the season with a Sunday doubleheader with Trine in Angola, Ind.
