Turnbull Keeps Swinging

HOLLAND, Mich. – Andrew Fabry game Albion College a quality start in game two, but he surrendered a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning and the Britons went on to take a 6-5 loss to Hope College in 11 innings in the second game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader.

Jordyn Finney hit a RBI single and Riley Stesiak hit a two-run triple as Albion seized the 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Albion managed only two hits over the next eight innings and Hope scored in the second, seventh and ninth innings to extend the game to extra innings.

Joe Turnbull, who drew four walks in the game, reached base to leadoff the 10th inning. He scored on Jack Wyman's sacrifice fly. Luke Bottomley scored when Brendan Marino grounded to second base for the second out of the inning.

Hope had the winning run on base with no out in the 10th, but the Britons were able to wiggle out of the jam.

Hope won the game in the 11th on a single by Nicholas Holt.

Hope took a 14-4 win in game one to complete the sweep and take three of four games in the series. Turnbull hit his 12th double of the season to tie Adam Mazza for fourth on the Britons single-season list.

Albion (14-21 overall, 7-17 MIAA) will meet Trine University in its final league series of the season. It begins with a 2 o'clock Friday doubleheader at Albion's Champions Stadium.
