Britons Bounced At Home

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College was unable to hold the lead in both games Thursday, losing 7-4 and 9-7 to Calvin College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader played at Champions Stadium at Frank Joranko Field.

Albion (12-13 overall, 5-9 MIAA) and Calvin (11-14, 6-8) are scheduled to complete the league series with a 1 o'clock Saturday doubleheader in Grand Rapids.

Game One

James Spilko drove in two runs and Jordyn Finney and Ronnie Williams each produced RBI singles as Albion took a 4-2 lead to the seventh inning.

Mitch Shedlowsky went to the mound in the seventh trying to throw the complete game, but he ran into trouble as Colton Wolfe tripled to the fence in left-center to drive in a run and have the tying run 90 feet away with no out. After a strikeout, Kyle Houts lifted a sacrifice fly to forge a 4-4 tie.

The next batter, Johnny Salgado, reached on an error and Josh Sterenberg was hit by a pitch. They scored on Steven Dogger's double.

Albion got its first two batters on in the bottom of the seventh, but a double play short circuited the rally.

Game Two

Shane Lindemann and Williams collected three hits apiece and Riley Stesiak drove a two-run homerun over the left field fence in the third inning.

Albion led 7-4 after five innings, but Calvin pounced for five runs in the fifth inning.
