Baseball Britons Break Out The Bats

OLIVET, Mich. – Albion College slugged 11 extra base hits to earn 9-3 and 15-9 victories over Olivet College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader.

Shortstop Joe Turnbull finished the day with six hits, including three doubles. First baseman Jack Wyman produced a double, a triple and hit a homerun while collecting six runs batted in.

Albion improved to 11-10 overall and 4-6 in games against MIAA rivals. The Britons and Comets will complete the four-game series with a 1 o'clock doubleheader at Albion's Champions Stadium at Frank Joranko Field.

Game One

Albion led 4-1 after the second inning and it tacked on four more runs in the sixth to pull away.

Jordyn Finney was credited with a RBI when he was hit by a pitch in the sixth and Wyman coaxed a walk with the bases loaded.

Mitch Shedlowsky went the distance on the mound to improve to 3-1 on the year. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out four.

Game Two

Albion trailed 4-1 after three innings, but it scored in every inning from the fourth inning on.

Albion scored three times in the sixth to seize the lead for good. Luke Bottomley hit a RBI single and scored on a wild pitch. Shane Lindemann also scored on a wild pitch in the inning.

Wyman hit his first homerun of the season in the seventh.

Reliever Austin Carr got credit for his first victory at the collegiate level. He allowed three runs and five hits over 2.2 innings. Steven Scott pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to notch his third save of the season.
