ALBION, Mich. – Shane Lindemann and James Spilko hit .500 for the day, but Albion College walked off Champions Stadium at Frank Joranko Field with 3-2 and 6-3 losses to Alma College.
The Britons split the four-game series with the Scots. Albion is 9-10 overall and 2-6 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. The Britons next MIAA series is against Olivet College with games on the road on Saturday and at home on Sunday.
Game One
Zach Maresh gave Albion a quality start, scattering two runs on six hits over six innings. He matched his season-high with seven strikeouts.
Albion took the early lead on Lindemann's RBI single in the third. The Britons were threatening for more in the inning with a runner at third base with one out, but a double play ended the frame.
Albion looked to answer after Alma scored twice in the top of the fifth, advancing Justin Dennis to third base with one out. Dennis was called out at home when he slid in on Luke Bottomley's bunt.
Instead, Albion forged a tie in the sixth when Ronnie Williams laced a double to chase Lindemann home.
Albion had the winning run in scoring position in the seventh when Bottomley slugged a two-out double. The next batter grounded out to end the threat.
Alma loaded the bases with no out in the ninth and that led to Matthew Minaudo lifting a sacrifice fly to score Adam Thoryk with the go-ahead run.
Game Two
An error helped Alma score three runs in the sixth. Max Trucks and Ben Finzel produced two RBI each for the Scots.
Bottomley hit a RBI single in the third and Riley Stesiak added a RBI single in the fourth as Albion cut the deficit to 3-2.
Joe Turnbull produced a RBI single in the seventh.
