Shedlowsky Goes The Distance

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Mitch Shedlowsky threw his second career complete game and Justin Dennis drove in two runs as Albion College defeated the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 5-1, in spring break baseball action.

The Engineers scored in the second, but Shedlowsky allowed only four hits from that point on. He also received help from the defense which turned a pair of double plays and catcher Jordyn Finney threw out a runner trying to steal in the seventh.

Shedlowsky's final line was an earned run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

"I was proud of the adjustments Mitch made after the first two innings," Head Coach Scott Carden said. "He had dominating stuff and really settled in."

Albion forged a 1-1 tie in the third when Riley Stesiak, who doubled to lead off the inning, stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

Albion seized the lead with a three-run fifth. James Spilko scored on Dennis' single through the left side. Dennis came in to score when Ronnie Williams reached on an error by the shortstop. Joey Mehelich collected his first career RBI with a single to right field, scoring Williams.

Albion tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Dennis tripled to send Shane Linemann home.

Albion finished with eight hits. Lindemann, Dennis and Mehelich had two apiece.

Albion (5-2 overall) completes its Florida trip at 10 a.m. tomorrow against Muskingum University at the Seminole Sports Complex in Sanford, Fla.
