Baseball Britons Grind In Saturday Doubleheader

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Albion College Head Coach Scott Carden described his team as a bunch of grinders before the season. While the Britons didn't pick up a victory Saturday – they were swept by Franklin College by scores of 10-9 and 7-5 – the team lived up to the pre-season description.

Albion scored three times in the fifth to forge a 5-5 tie in game one and it scored four times in the eighth to cut the deficit to a single run.

The Britons scored four times in the eighth in game two, but the rally also fell short in that game.

Albion collected 23 hits on the day. James Spilko, the first-year second baseman, produced five hits – including a double – and two RBI. Justin Dennis chipped in with two hits and a RBI in game one. TJ Bowers, Jordyn Finney, Riley Stesiak and Shane Lindemann all had two hits in game two.

Albion will complete its drive to central Florida on Sunday before starting a string of games with a Monday afternoon date with Grove City College.
