ALBION, Mich. – While the results from the final 12 games of the season will prove if Albion College's 20-14 victory over Calvin College in the second game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader was a season-defining moment, the comeback was remarkable.

Trailing 11-1 after 3 ½ innings, Albion rallied for 19 runs (five in the fourth, four in the fifth, seven in the seventh and three in the eighth) to salvage a game in the four-game series.

"We've been waiting for a comeback for a while now," Head Coach Scott Carden said. "We took the attitude we're not going to lose. I don't think we've always had the focus and the desire to compete the way we did today in game two.

"Our captains – Michael Fischbach and Gunnar Owens – led us," Carden added.

Calvin gained a 6-3 victory in game one.

Game One

Steven Marowski hit a RBI single and later scored on a passed ball as Albion took a 3-2 lead in the third.

Ryan Stewart singled and Mike Kempton walked to start Calvin's fifth inning. Stewart stole home and Kempton scored on Nate DeZwaan's double.

The Knights added runs in the sixth (on Steven Seager's homerun) and seventh (Stewart scored on DeZwaan's sacrifice fly).

Game Two

Known as Albion's closer out of the bullpen, Owens had his longest outing on the mound (5.2 innings) to gain his first victory of the season. He allowed three runs on 10 hits and a walk. He struck out four.

Ben Gehan hit a two-run triple as Albion forged a tie at 12 in the seventh. Albion seized the lead on Fischbach's two-run triple.

Shane Lindemann  and Gehan finished with three hits and two RBI apiece. Jack Wyman and Fischbach finished with four RBI each and Seven Marowski hit a three-run homerun. Logan Priebe also collected two RBI.

On Deck

Adrian College will be the opponent for Albion's next MIAA series. It starts next Saturday with a 1 o'clock doubleheader at Albion's Frank Joranko Field.
