Baseball Britons Bounced In Alma

ALMA, Mich. – First-year shortstop Joe Turnbull went 3-for-6 with two runs batted in, and seniors Spencer Bonofiglio and Michael Fischbach produced two RBI apiece for Albion's highlights in a pair of losses at Alma College Friday afternoon.

Albion rallied for four runs in the fourth inning in game one, but it had only one base runner in the final three innings to take a 5-4 loss.

Albion scored twice in the first inning in game two, but Alma scored multiple times in the third, fourth and fifth to hand the Britons an 11-2 setback.

Game One

Zach Maresh gave Albion a chance at the comeback by striking out eight over 4.2 scoreless innings.

Shane Lindemann hit a leadoff single in the first, but Albion never advanced a runner to second base until the fourth inning. Fischbach and Bonofiglio hit one-out RBI singles and Turnbull produced a two-run single with two out.

Albion's only hit in the late innings came from Jack Wyman with two out in the fifth. Albion was retired in order in the sixth and seventh.

Game Two

Albion took an early 2-0 lead as Fischbach hit a single to score Mitch Lasceski, and he later scored as Bonofiglio doubled down the left field line.

Alma tied the score with two runs in the third. It scored five more in the fourth and three in the fifth. David Carles had two hits and three RBI for the Scots, while Dayne San Miguel had two hits and two RBI.

Cole Thune worked the seventh on the mound for Albion, allowing a run on one hit and a walk while striking out three. Ben Gehan worked a scoreless eighth inning.
