Fischbach Collects Three More Hits

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Michael Fischbach collected three hits and drew a pair of walks as Albion College split a non-league baseball doubleheader with Defiance College Saturday afternoon.

Game One

Albion staked Craig Conway to a 7-0 lead and the senior pitcher worked 5.2 innings to gain his first victory of the season.

Mitch Lasceski led off the second with a homerun, and the Britons tacked on two more runs in the frame as Justin Dennis and Fischbach drove in runs.

Dennis, Fischbach and Steven Marowski hit singles as the Britons loaded the bases in the fifth. The Britons scored twice as Spencer Bonofiglio sent a RBI groundout to second base and TJ Bowers was hit by a pitch.

Marowski lifted a sacrifice fly and Bonofiglio hit a RBI single to shortstop in the sixth.

Conway allowed just two hits through the first five innings, but he ran into trouble in the sixth as the Yellow Jackets produced a leadoff single and the next two batters walked. Conway's line was four runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

Steven Scott was not charged with a run in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed a hit while striking out one.

Game Two

Fischbach manufactured a run in the first. He hit a two-out single, stole second and third and scored on a bad throw.

Albion starting pitcher Mitch Shedlowsky was unable to get a shutdown inning after the Britons scored, however. Defiance scored twice in the first. The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more in the second after Albion had forged a 2-2 tie when Bowers scored on Joe Turnbull's sacrifice fly.

Defiance added two more runs in the fourth.

Ryan Kohlhofer, Defiance's leadoff batter, scored three times, while Dom Gentile produced three of his team's 11 hits.

On Deck

Albion has a Tuesday date at Bluffton (Ohio) University before beginning Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action with Friday and Saturday doubleheaders against Kalamazoo College.
