Lasceski's Grand Slam Sparks Rout

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Mitch Lasceski drove in six runs, and Justin Dennis, Steven Marowski and Luke Bottomley all had two RBI to lead Albion College to a 17-2 rout of Juniata (Pa.) College in spring break baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

It was Albion's fourth win in a row to match its longest winning streak during the 2015 season. Albion will try to extend the winning streak when it meets Wittenberg (Ohio) University for a 9 a.m. Friday game at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale.

The last time Albion scored at least 17 runs in a game was April 28, 2014, when it scored a 19-6 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College.

All of the starters collected a hit except Marowski who drew a pair of walks. Dennis went 5-for-5 and Ronnie Williams III collected three hits, including a double.

Lasceski delivered the big blow with a grand slam as Albion plated 10 runs in the fifth. It was Lasceski's second collegiate homerun and his first grand slam. The junior, who finished last season with 12 RBI, has seven RBI in four games this season.

"I thought we had a lot of good at bats early, but we didn't have anything to show for it," Head Coach Scott Carden said. "We hung in there and eventually things went our way."

The run support allowed first-year pitcher Mitch Shedlowsky cruise to his first collegiate win. He worked eight innings, scattering two runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

"Mitch gave a great performance on the mound," Carden said.

Patrick O'Brien worked the ninth, allowing a walk with two strikeouts.
