Walk-off Spoils Opening Day

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Braden Pelley hit a walk-off homerun as Franklin College completed a 4-3 comeback victory over Albion College at John P. McDowell Field Friday afternoon.

Albion led 3-0 after 6 ½ innings.

Franklin starter Hayden Cleveland threw three perfect frames before Shane Lindemann collected Albion's first hit with a double to leadoff the fourth inning. Lindemann scored on Michael Fischbach's one out single.

Albion went on to load the bases as Steven Marowski singled and Spencer Bonofiglio walked. The Britons only scratched out one run as Fischbach scored when Ronnie Williams III bounced into a fielder's choice.

Justin Dennis produced Albion's third run when he launched a leadoff homerun in the sixth. It was the first homerun of his collegiate career.

Mitch Shedlowsky, making his collegiate debut, left with the lead after yielding a run on five hits over seven innings. He received help from the defense in the form of two double plays. Fischbach threw out a runner trying to score to end the second and Dennis snared a line drive to start a twin killing to end the Franklin threat in the fourth.

Shedlowsky set the Franklin batters down in order in the fifth and sixth, but ran into trouble in the seventh. Joe Ardizzone singled and Pelley doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Ardizzone scored on a ground ball to third base.

Franklin forged a tie when Ardizzone hit a two-run single with two out in the eighth.

Albion and Franklin are scheduled to complete the three-game series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
