Fischbach Powers Albion To Saturday Split

OLIVET, Mich. – Michael Fischbach slugged a three-run home run – his fourth of the season – to power Albion College to a 5-2 victory over Olivet College in the second game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader.

Albion had to settle for a split of the Saturday games as it stranded 11 runners in a 6-0 loss in game one.

Game One

Albion left the bases loaded in the first and it left two on base in three innings. Shane Lindemann, Steven Marowski and Justin Dennis all produced two hits for the Britons. Fischbach and Chase Carpenter were on base twice as both collected a hit and a walk.

Beau Langs delivered a two-run single in the second and Stephen Botti drove in two runs for the Comets.

Craig Conway (3-3), the Britons' starting pitcher, was charged with three earned runs on 10 hits and a walk. He struck out five.

Colin Boak (2-4) picked up the complete game shutout for Olivet. His line included nine hits and three walk.

Game Two

Fischbach now has 39 RBI – third most in a season at Albion – after his fourth-inning home run powered the Britons to a 5-1 lead.

Andrew Dayfield's sacrifice fly scored Colton Dawdy as Olivet took a 1-0 lead in the second.

Fischbach scored the tying run in the fourth. He walked, stole second and third and scored when Mitch Lasceski tripled.

Kyle Kowal hit a leadoff triple in the fifth and he scored the go-ahead run on Carpenter's sacrifice fly.

Albion starter Zach Maresh (4-2) was charged with two runs on six hits and three walks. Gunnar Owens pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his seventh save of the season.

Next Up

Albion and Olivet will complete the weekend series with a 1 p.m. Sunday doubleheader at the Britons' Frank Joranko Field.
