Albion postpones fall sports season

Albion, Mich. -- Albion College, in conjunction with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, has made the difficult decision to postpone conference competition and championships for football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and volleyball for the upcoming 2020 fall season.

The MIAA and its nine member schools are working to develop a plan to schedule conference competition and championships for these sports in the spring semester. Albion College is committed to providing its fall sport student-athletes with a quality athletic experience during the upcoming semester. These activities include practice, intrasquad competition, skill development, strength and conditioning, leadership and professional development opportunities.

Albion College will partner with its team physicians and the Calhoun County Health Department to create health and safety protocols for our student-athletes, which will include the NCAA Resocialization Guidelines. Phased-in practice plans and surveillance testing will be implemented to ensure the safe return to athletic activity for all Briton student-athletes.

"While the decision to postpone fall competitions and championships is difficult, the safety of our student-athletes is our primary concern during these times," said Athletic Director Matt Arend. "We are committed to providing a quality and engaging experience for our fall student-athletes this semester. As we work on creating our plans, we will actively seek input from our coaches and student-athletes to determine how we can maximize our athletic opportunities during the fall to best meet their needs, while maintaining their health and safety."

An official decision regarding winter sports, including men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, and equestrian will be made in the coming weeks.
