Schwarz, Trevino gain MIAA Player of the Week awards

Carly Schwarz, a midfielder on the women's lacrosse team, and Israel Trevino from the men's tennis team represent Albion College among the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for March 18.

Schwarz, a sophomore from Clinton Township, Mich., who prepped at Henry Ford II High School, is the Offensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse after producing nine goals and three assists in Briton victories over Ohio Northern University and Hanover College. She was especially productive in the Hanover game, setting career highs with seven goals, two assists and nine points. Schwarz was efficient against Hanover, scoring on seven of the eight shots she placed on goal.

In addition to her scoring, Schwarz helped Albion maintain possession by controlling the draw 17 times and causing a pair of turnovers against Ohio Northern.

Schwarz's pick marks the fourth time Albion has had a MIAA Player of the Week selection in women's lacrosse this season.

The women's lacrosse team is looking forward to playing on campus for the first time this season. Illinois Wesleyan University will be the opponent for the 11 a.m. Sunday game at the Davis Athletic Complex.

Trevino, a junior from Lansing, Mich., who prepped at Holt High School, defeated his opponents from Defiance College by scores of 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match and 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles match last Wednesday.

Paired with Toma Shngoo or Patrick Smoker, Trevino has won three of his last four doubles matches.

Albion has its final tune up before MIAA play tomorrow (Tuesday, March 19) with a home match against Grace Bible College.
