Three Britons are among the MIAA Athletes of the Week

Men's basketball guard Nathaniel Collins and women's track and field student-athletes ShaQuoria Thompson and Cassie Vince represent Albion College among the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for Feb. 4.

Collins, a senior from West Bloomfield, Mich., who prepped at Walled Lake Central, came off the bench to score 20 points in the Britons 88-77 victory over Alma College last Saturday. He produced 17 points in just 10 ½ minutes of action in the second half as Albion rallied after trailing by a point on two occasions. Collins knocked down 7-of-8 shots from the field in the game, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range.

The men's basketball team, 14-6 overall and 7-2 against MIAA rivals, has three games on the schedule this week. The Britons have a home date against Adrian College tonight at 7:30, followed by road trips to Kalamazoo College and league-leading Trine University.

Thompson, a first-year student from Waxahachie, Texas, was selected as the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. She moved up to 11th on the Division III performance list for the season with a shot put of 44' 8" in a meet at Indiana Wesleyan University last Saturday.

With the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship looming Feb. 23, Thompson is planning to compete in the shot put and weight throw events in a Friday meet at Aquinas College.

Vince, a senior from Amherst, Ohio, maintained second place on the Division III performance list when she completed the 3,000 meters in 9:31.07 in a meet at the University of Notre Dame last Saturday. Vince improved her career-best and school record time in the event by eight seconds.

Named the MIAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, Vince is planning to be on the starting line for the 5,000 meters in the Big Meet at Grand Valley State University on Friday.
