Four Britons Gain MIAA Athlete of the Week Awards

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced athlete of the week awards for four Albion College student-athletes Monday.

Trevor McManus, the sophomore goalkeeper from Canton, Mich., was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week in men's lacrosse after collecting 15 saves in the Britons 6-5 loss to Elmhurst (Ill.) College last Saturday. Thanks to McManus' effort, the Britons held Elmhurst 10 goals under its season average.

The men's lacrosse team jumps into Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association competition on Saturday with a home contest against Calvin College. Face-off is 7 p.m. inside the Davis Athletic Complex.

Taylor Nelson, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse after causing three turnovers, scooping nine ground balls and scoring two free position goals in the Britons 20-1 victory over Trine University last Saturday.

The women's lacrosse team continues its MIAA schedule with road contests at Adrian College on Tuesday and Calvin College on Saturday.

Marceline Redick, a sophomore from San Marcos, Calif., won her singles and doubles matches as Albion gained a 6-3 victory over Alma College last Friday. She defeated Caroline Ross 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and joined Bella Scalise for an 8-2 win over Ross and Maty Ennis at No. 2 doubles.

The women's tennis team will play its next two matches at home. The Britons have a Tuesday home date with Adrian College and a Sunday contest against Trine University.

Allison Snyder, a senior who prepped at Jackson County Western High School, achieved a personal record in the 10,000 meters last Friday to gain the athlete of the week award in women's track. She completed her race in 37:02.

Albion will send its track & field athletes to Delaware, Ohio, on Saturday for the Marv Frye Invitational.
